The doctors were powerless and could not cure him. But the local girl Fevronia helped get rid of him, but at the same time she asked the prince to take her as his wife as payment. Peter sincerely fell in love with the commoner, so he immediately agreed. He made her his wife and named her Princess Murom. By this act he aroused the wrath of the boyars, and he was forced to renounce the princely throne. Peter clearly chose the love of his wife and the couple left Murom.

The married couple had to endure many trials, but they withstood them with dignity and remained faithful and loving to each other. A lot of time passed, and the boyars, realizing that none of them could rule the city, persuaded the prince to return. The pious spouses returned and began to reign in Murom. They showed themselves to be wise rulers, which earned them the respect of ordinary townspeople. Discord and bloodshed in Murom soon ceased.

In their old age, the couple decided to become monks, after which they began to live in different monasteries, maintaining sincere love for each other. They vowed to die on the same day, which happened a little later. Peter and Fevronya were buried in different coffins, as servants of God. But after some time they were found lying in the same coffin, where they lay holding hands.

Appreciating the great feat of love of the spouses, the Lord took their souls to Heaven and appointed them as patrons of family and marriage.
