The mind goes on its own paths, but these paths are not so different: the mind loves what comes from repeating everything that gave a pleasant experience in the past. “I love it” basically means “I love repeating what felt so good in the past.” So both the mind and the senses are selective. Picking and choosing isn't that bad, but it does take effort. Although we all think that effort is good, that nothing comes without effort, this is not true: the essence cannot be reached through effort; love cannot be achieved through effort.
